Our February 6, 2012, meeting is entitled "Afternoon Tea" and we will meet at our usual time and place, but members may dress for tea and are asked to bring a doll dressed in either her tea-time or Valentine Day's best.

Our president, Kathy Meador, did a program on Jumeau dolls and on dolls by artist Dianna Effner.

Kathy brought some lovely examples of Jumeau dolls from her personal collection, and several members also shared some of their Jumeau dolls and French bebes.

Kathy displayed her dolls by Dianna Effner, as well.

She also brought a tiny baby doll she had sculpted.

Christmas Party!

On December 5,  2011, the Austin Doll Collectors Society held its annual Christmas Party.  Many members donned their gay apparel.

 

 Several members got into the holiday spirit, distributing charming gifts and lovely cards.

 

 But mixing business and pleasure, there was a brief meeting.

 

In the meantime, Austin Catering laid out a luscious feast. . . .

 

 

 Dinner is served!

 

After our delicious dinner, there was a gift exchange.  Each member wishing to participate brought a doll-related gift.

 

This was no ordinary gift exchange.  Each member could select a gift from under the tree or could claim a gift already opened by another member.  The member who lost her gift then had the choice of taking a present from under the tree or claiming another member's gift.  This resulted in a bit of suspense and trading back and forth, but it was all in the spirit of holiday fun and in the end everyone was pleased with their presents!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

November 7, 2011, Program on Modern Ball Joint Dolls

Member Nancy Choate did a program on modern ball joint dolls.

Originally made in Japan, Korea, and China of high-quality resin, these dolls have multiple joints.  Modern doll artists in the United States and other countries are now producing ball joint dolls in resin and vinyl.

These dolls are meant for adults, not children.  They are made to be modified, and their owners can paint the faces (called "face up") and change the wigs, eyes, and even body parts, making the dolls their own unique creations.  Some dolls come with interchangable faces.

Nancy shared dolls from her own extensive collection, and many members brought their own ball joint dolls.
