AUSTIN DOLL COLLECTORS SOCIETY

The Austin Doll Collectors Society is an organization of antique, vintage, and modern doll collectors, dealers, and artisans. We meet on the second Sunday of each month and our meetings are fun and educational. We begin with refreshments and socializing, and, following our brief business meeting, there is a special doll-related program and "show and tell." The Austin Doll Collectors Society is a nonprofit organization and is a member of the United Federation of Doll Clubs.

August 5, 2013, Meeting

Most appropriate for August, with its sunny days and soaring temperatures, the refeshment table was decorated with seaside scenes.

Brenda Kay White gave a program on Hearts for Hearts World Vision Dolls.

Each doll tells the true story of a little girl who has worked to make a difference in her community.  The dolls represent little girls from all over the world, including Belarus, Ethiopia, India, Mexico, and the United States.  The idea behind the dolls is to empower girls around the globe to become agents of change in their communities.  Part of the purchase price of each doll is donated to World Vision for programs supporting girls in that country, such as providing food or school supplies.

This little cutie is the completed doll made from the head poured by master doll artist Mary McKenzie at our June meeting.
